Our grapes are organically grown and cared for intensively to make the best wine in the midwest. In our 7.5 acres of grapes, weed control, disease management and fertilization are applied within strict regulations of certified organic practices. As stated previously, of the 18 cultivars started in 2002, 8 were selected for continued organic production and are listed below with respect to the year in which they were first planted:
2003: GR-7, Mars Seedless
2007: Noiret, Brainna, Prairie Star & Marquette
We have been fortunate to have the assistance of Dr. Paul Domoto from Iowa State University’s Horticulture Department for knowledge on grape and aronia berry production, as well as continuing help concerning organic farming from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
